Quarterly Research Roundup (Q4 2024)

The year of 2024 was an incredibly eventful year, to say the least. The number of ground-breaking events in AI, robotics, and autonomous mobility – were nothing short of unprecedented. Most likely, we’re at the highest point in history in terms of potential impact, and in sheer numbers, of disruptive innovations proliferating in society. In the coming years, we should expect substantial (and unexpected) transformations of entire marketplaces and value chains.

In this quarterly roundup for Q4 2024, we’ve compiled our first seven pieces from our research concept Welcome to the Future. Together they paint a picture for society where established traditions, for a wide array of sectors, will become obsoleted with new traditions. And this is certainly not a new phenomenon, as history is filled with thousands of examples where human exploration brings down established market structures.

However, we’ve never had technology being able to replace our thinking, creativity, movement, and practical tasks – all at the same time. Artificial Intelligence is at a whole other level, likely recalibrating the way customer value is created for most, or perhaps all, sectors and companies on the planet.

Through general-purpose robots, autonomous vehicles, and agentic software systems – the impacts could be far greater than what most of us currently believe. Similar to the societal transformation stemming from the internet, it is extremely difficult to project the impacts from AI over the coming 20 years. Most of our projections will likely be wrong. But those who get it right will have immense value creation to be the originators of, or investors into. Be so sure.

In hindsight, 2025 could be the year where AI leaves the foundational trenches, becomes a havoc-breaking teenager, and truly starts challenging the way we’ve done business since the internet transformed the analogue world.

And as history has taught us when transformative technologies arrive – we should expect, the unexpected.
